Charlie Hartwell is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker whose experience spans numerous facets of both film production and performance. While Charlie’s primary focus is cinematography, he has also worked in roles as a director, producer, actor, and editor.
Charlie’s filmmaking journey began at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he spent a large portion of his final two years in college balancing a full course load while living on a tour bus, filming shows and music videos for platinum-selling rap artist Yung Gravy.
Since graduating, Charlie has shifted from working primarily in the travel and live music spaces into the narrative film space.
In the early stages of the pandemic, Charlie wrote, produced, directed, and acted in his debut short film, Two-Face, which helped him land a supporting role in John Montague’s feature film Way of the Warriors.
Shortly thereafter, Charlie worked as the Director of Photography and producer of the short film Hand Me Downs.
Throughout 2022, Charlie worked alongside Jim Beam and Atypikal in producing Jim Beam Welcome Sessions, a six-part docuseries centered around the Grammy-winning rock band MUSE. This program reached over 700 million people, making it the most successful and integrated program in Jim Beam’s history.
Charlie’s work has amassed over 85,000,000 views and has taken him all around the world. As he continues to refine his filmmaking skills, his passion for telling emotionally driven, impactful stories continues to grow.
